GRI B I Associates Geological and Environmental Consulting Services
February 8, 2000
L. San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P O Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Attention: Michael J. Infurna, Jr.
Subject: Report of Soil Boring Investigation
Reid Plastics UST Site
LO 75 West Valpico Road, Tracy, California
GA Project No. 172-01-01
L. Ladies and Gentlemen:
Gribi Associates is pleased to submit this report on behalf of Reid Plastics documenting a recently-
completed soil boring investigation conducted at the Reid Plastics underground storage tank(UST)
site located at 75 West Valpico Road in Tracy, California. The soil boring investigation included
the drilling and sampling of three soil borings (IB-IA, IB-1, and IB-2) at the site using direct-push
coring equipment. The goal of this investigation was to characterize soil and groundwater quality
in the vicinity of the former fuel dispenser in order to attempt to obtain regulatory closure for this
.. UST site.
Both field and laboratory analytical results from the three soil borings clearly indicate that the August
+ 1999 overexcavation of the fuel dispenser area down to about 14 feet in depth successfully
remediated diesel-range hydrocarbons previously identified during UST removal activities in January
1999 at shallower depths beneath the removed fuel dispenser. The only detectable hydrocarbon
LO encountered in any of the nine soil samples collected was 2.0 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg)
detected in the downgradient boring IB-2 at a depth of about 7.5 feet below surface. A review of the
laboratory chromatogram for this analysis, which is included in the laboratory data report in
' Appendix C of this report, shows that this positive detection is not typical diesel, but rather a heavier
hydrocarbon.
LO
Based on results of this investigation, we recommend that the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services,Environmental Health Division grant regulatory closure for this site. Results from previous
soil sampling after removal of the diesel UST showed no significant releases from the UST system
itself. In addition, results from this investigation show that releases identified at shallow depth
beneath the former fuel dispenser were adequately overexcavated and do not pose an environmental
r. risk.
LO
1350 Hayes Street,Suite C-14 •Benicia •California •94510 •Phone (707)748-7743 •Fax (707)748-7763
LN
