For the purpose
of clarity, I would like to present a brief background of the project.
After removal of one 10,000 gallon diesel tank, the initial soil
sample results showed benzene, tolulene and zylene at non-detectable
levels. The total extractable hydrocarbons were at 8200 ppm.
After discussion with Doug Wilson and Harlan Knowl , it was agreed
that deeper samples could be taken by hand auger.
Two samples were taken by auger at both ends of the excavation.
The first samples were taken at a depth of nineteen feet. The second
set of samples was- taken at twenty four feet. A water sample was also
taken from an adjacent well .
The soil samples at nineteen feet and the water sample were
analyzed by Trace Analysis Laboratory Inc. of Hayward. Trace is a
state certified lab. The report from Trace Analysis Inc. (attached)
shows all concentrations well below state action levels. All sample
results are reported in U/KO or parts per billion.
With this, Laura Scudders is requesting that they be allowed to
remove 'soil at a depth of twenty feet, at which time one further soil
sample can be taken to check for BTX and Total Hydrocarbons. A sample
of the soil removed will also be taken to ascertain the need for
aeration. The removed soil will then be left on site to be aerated by
