8
66 1''i
f
c+f
Of the seven soil samples and the one groundwater sample collected
in January 1990, two soil samples exhibited traces of Total
_. Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D) at concentrations of 18
mg/Kg and 17 mg/Kg. In addition to the TPH-D concentrations
detected, very minor traces of toluene and xylene were detecteld.
No compounds analyzed for; were detected in the single groundwaL :r
sample collected. For a complete discussion of both the analytic:
results and the borehole installation field activities, pie_,
refer to WESTONOs January 31, 1990 report entitled "Soil Remediat-
ion Proposal."
Ensuing 'the receipt of the January 31, 1990 report, the EHL)
requested that a representative groundwater sample be collected.
A representative groundwater sample can only be collected through
a properly installed and properly developed monitoring well.
Therefore, WESTON proceeded with the installation of a single
monitor well.
3.0 Groundwater Investigation
3.1 Monitoring Well Installation
On March 26, 1990, WESTON installed a single monitoring well as
located on Figure 3. This well was installed to a total depth of
59' using a hollow stem auger drilling rig. The well was con-
structed of 4" diameter, schedule 40 PVC, with a 15 foot screen
section. The well was developed through the utilization of
combined swabbing and bailing for a total of four and one half
hours. A complete description of the well installation, construc-
tion and development procedures is contained in the well installa-
tion field report enclosed in Appendix A.
3.2 Groundwater Sampling
Two groundwater samples were collected from the monitoring well.
The initial sample was collected on April 2, 1990 with the
confirmation sample collected on May 2, 1990. The samples were
collected utilizing a clear teflon bailer. The collected samples
were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons utilizing EPA Method
8015 and for benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene (BTX&E)
utilizing EPA Method 602. A complete discussion of the sample
collection methods are contained in the field sampling- report
enclosed in Appendix A.
4.0 Analytical Results
The following discussions summarize the analytical results for both
the initial and confirmation groundwater samples. The analytical
results are presented in tabular form on Table 1 and the analytical
data reports are contained in Appendix B.
