• 25 August 1995 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0143 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> 3 3 1 GEOPROBE SOIL SAMPLING <br /> Probings GP18, GP20 and GP 21 were advanced to 25 feet Discrete soil samples were collected at <br /> 5 foot intervals beginning at 5 feet in GP18 and GP20 and beginning at 10 feet in GP21 Samples <br /> were collected at depths of 15 feet and 18 feet in GP22 and at depths of 10 feet and 15 feet in GP24 <br /> Due to stiff soil conditions, probing GP22 was only advanced to 18 feet and probing GP24 was <br /> advanced to 15 feet All soil samples were collected using a 1 375-inch diameter, two-foot long, <br /> piston type sampler loaded with four 6-inch long precleaned brass sleeves To avoid cross <br /> contamination, the sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water <br /> prior to each sampling run For each sample, both ends of the second sleeve were covered with <br /> alununum sheets, capped and sealed with tape <br /> The samples were placed in a chilled container and transported to McCampbell Analytical Inc (MAI) <br /> for analysis The samples were analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods <br /> 8015-modified for fuels and 8020, respectively <br /> • 3 3 2 LOGGING <br /> Soil was extruded from the remaining brass sleeves and screened for the presence of organic vapors <br /> using a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to <br /> isobutylene) and the readings were recorded on the Boring Logs The soil was descnbed in <br /> accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (see Boring Logs, Appendix C) <br /> 3 3 3 GEOPROBE GROUND WATER SAMPLING <br /> Probings GP19 to GP21 and GP25 to GP30 were advanced to a depth of 31 5 feet using a Geoprobe <br /> water sampler Probings GP23, GP31, GP32 and GP34 were advanced to a depth of 34 5 feet The <br /> push rods were then pulled back 2 feet to expose the water sampler screen interval Ground water <br /> was allowed to enter the sampler, and samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bailer <br /> The sampler was disassembled and cleaned between each sampling New PVC tubing was used for <br /> each sample Samples were collected in 40-m1 EPA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid Due to <br /> stiff soil conditions, water samples were not retrievable from probings GP22, GP23 or GP24 <br /> The samples placed in a chilled container and transported MAI for analysis The samples were <br /> analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in accordance with EPA methods 5030 and 602, respectively <br />
