August 11, 2000 A-2 003-7170
recorded during the development of the monitoring wells. The monitoring well will be developed until
the parameters recorded in the field stabilize (individual readings are within approximately 10 percent
of each other). Monitoring well development and measurement equipment will be decontaminated
prior to development using steam cleaning or triple rinse methods. Development water will be
contained in USDOT approved 55-gallon drums.
Ground Water Sampling and Analyses
Prior to collecting ground water samples from the monitoring well, water level measurements will be
made. Depth to ground water will be measured using a conductivity based water level indicator and
recorded to the nearest 0.01-feet. Following water level measurements, the monitoring well will be
purged using a submersible pump until pH, temperature and conductivity readings have stabilized or a
minimum of three to five well casing volumes of water has been removed. The pumps and tubing will
be decontaminated between wells using Alconox and distilled water followed by distilled water rinse.
Equipment blanks will be collected to assess the adequacy of decontamination. Data collected during
purging will be recorded on purge logs. Purge water will be contained in barrels pending disposal
determination.
Ground water samples will be collected from each monitoring well using new disposable bailers and
placed into appropriate sampling containers supplied by the laboratory. A field duplicate sample will
also be collected as check of the precision and accuracy of the laboratory. Each sampling container
will be labeled appropriately and logged on a chain-of-custody form. Ground water samples will be
appropriately stored (refrigerated storage chest) and delivered to a pre-selected State certified
analytical laboratory for analysis. Samples will be analyzed for the parameters listed in the WDRs.
Surveying Top of the Monitoring Well Casings
A small notch will be made on the north side of the top of the casing of the monitoring well installed.
This notch will be used as a reference point for surveying of the monitoring well and subsequent depth
to water will be measured from this notch.
The top of the casing of each monitoring well will be surveyed by a licensed surveyor using a local
benchmark for reference. The survey will include horizontal coordinates and elevations.
Disposal of Assessment Related Soil and Water
Soil generated during the assessment may be either stored in drums or may be stored in stockpiles at
the site. Soil placed in stockpiles will be appropriately underlain and covered with visqueen plastic.
Water generated during the assessment will be temporarily stored in drums. Soil and water will be
disposed of offsite at an appropriate facility following an assessment of disposal options.
Roo-37.doc Golder Associates
