The subject document was prepared on behalf of Chevron
Pipe Line Company (CPL) by Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) and summarizes the
previous environmental work and recent groundwater sampling activities at the property.
The results of this study concluded that the organic material detected in soils samples is not
petroleum based, but rather biogenic in nature. Therefore, it is unlikely that previous petroleum
pipeline operations conducted adjacent to the site represent a source of hydrocarbons in the
subsurface at the site.
CPL looks forward to the PHS-EHD'S approval of the closure request. Geomatrix and CPL will
be glad to discuss this project at your convenience. Please contact Martin Bloes (510/842-6855)
or me (510/842-6877) with any remarks or questions.
Sincerely, '
r
Katie L.
