Upon completion of the soil and groundwater sampling, the boring was
backfilled with dry bentonite to the ground surface.
Drilling equipment was cleaned with a TSP solution between sampling
intervals to prevent potential cross-contamination.
Sediments encountered during drilling generally consisted of clayey silt
from the ground surface to 4.5-feet bgs, sand from 4.5-feet bgs to 8-feet
bgs, clayey silt from 8-feet bgs to 15-feet bgs, sand from 15-feet bgs to
17-feet bgs and sandy silt from 17-feet bgs to 20-feet bgs. Groundwater
was encountered at approximately 12-feet bgs. The boring log is
presented as Appendix B.
4 . 0 ANALYTICAL RESULTS FOR SOIL
Soil samples collected from 8.0-feet bgs, 13.0-feet bgs and 18.0-feet b g s
were analyzed by Chromalab for TPH-G by EPA Method 5030/8015M,
TPH-D by EPA Method 3510/8015M, BTEX by EPA Method 8020 and fuel
oxygenates by EPA Method 8260. In addition, the soil sample from 13.0-
feet bgs was chosen by Mr. Michael Infurna of the SJCPHS-EHD to also b e
analyzed for methanol and ethanol by EPA Method 8015M direct injection.
The analytical results are tabulated in Tables One and Two, and the
certified analytical report and chain of custody forms are included in
Appendix C.
TABLE ONE
Summary of Chemical Analysis of SOIL Samples
TPH-G, TPH-D and BTEX
All results are in parts per million
Depth TPH TPH Ethyl Total
Boring Sampled Gasoline Diesel Benzene Toluene Benzene Xylenes
------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
BH-A 8.0' < 1.0 13# < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050
13.0' < 1.0 < 1.0 < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050
18.0' < 1.0 < 1.0 < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050 < 0.0050
Notes:
Non-detectable concentrations are noted by the less than symbol (<) followed by the
detection limit.
Detectable concentrations are in bold.
# = Hydrocarbons in late diesel range and does not resemble diesel.
Hanson Property Report - August 1998
-3-
