KLEINFELDER
File No.: 20-3121-02
November 2, 1988
Page 9
We recommend that samples of any proposed imported fill soil be submitted to the soils
engineer for approval prior to being brought to the site. Engineered Fill should be
placed in horizontal layers a maximum of 8 inches in loose thickness and compacted to
a minimum of 90 percent of the maximum dry density as determined by the ASTM
D-1557 test procedure.
F•
We recommend fill slopes be constructed at slopes no steeper than 2:1 (2 Horizontal to
1 Verticai). The contact between the existing pad and Engineered Fill beneath the
building should be flattened to a maximum slope of 4:1. We recommend fill slopes be
protected from erosion as soon as possible by planting vegetation, or other means.
We recommend that structural and trench backfill be placed in the same manner as
Engineered Fill. In our opinion, trench backfills may be jetted outside building areas.
However, if jetting is performed, sufficient time should be set aside to allow
consolidation to occur. In addition, density tests should be taken to verify the
recommended compaction.
In areas to receive asphaltic concrete, we recommend that the subgrade soils, to a
depth of at least 6 inches be compacted at a moisture content near optimum to a
minimum of 95 percent of the referenced test procedure.
Pavement Section
We have assumed that the parking subgrade will consist of near-surface sandy soils.
Our firm has performed approximately 15 to 20 Resistance-Value (R-Value) Tests for
the existing and proposed residential developments around the site.
