We have worked to be compliant with various
hazardous waste requirements. We have retained Dan Barber, a California
Registered Civil Engineer and Environmental Assessor and understand that Dan and
you reviewed our compliance status last week.
You raised several issues for clarification, namely;
Sludge disposal records. Limited sludge collection from the wash bay collection
gutters as well as oleophilic absorbent pads "diapers"floated in the 2-stage oil water
separator are accumulated as hazardous waste in labeled DOT approved drums.
We have not generated a full drum yet but should within the next several weeks.
Waste will be disposed using Asbury Environmental Services, our current"Used Oil",
"Filters" and 'Waste Antifreeze"disposal vendor. Upon pickup we will use EPA No.
CAL000368693 and retain a copy of the manifest.
Label of drum containing sludge. While the material may pose a very low threat level,
we have labeled the drummed material as "Toxic" Hazardous Waste and provided
secondary containment.
Waste removal from wash water in separator. We have inspected the oil water
separator and removed an unnecessary and clogged screen on the downward leg of
the "T"effluent pipe. This directs effluent flow from the clarified lower portion of the
secondary chamber after carry over oil has risen to the top surface. The upward leg
of the "T"effluent pipe remains open for emergency overflow only. The discharge lift
pump, within the pump well (covered pit north of the exterior of the building), is set to
pump "treated"effluent before the separator's secondary chamber water surface can
overflow into the upward leg of the "T"fitting. The attached sketch is offered.
Pads are removed as they become saturated with oily waste and disposed as
manifested hazardous waste.
