Setting Up the Hazardous Waste Collection Area
Overview With the StrongPak Program, stores are provided with the proper materials
needed to safely manage and dispose of hazardous waste. These materials
include a set of plastic collection containers, self-sealing bags and labels.
Stores will receive a delivery of the StrongPak materials needed to set up the
hazardous waste collection area. There should be one designated colleague
ORR .„,.. to order additional supplies to ensure a proper inventory.
The Store Manager must designate an area in the backroom as the
hazardous waste collection area, preferably where damages are processed.
Please choose the area wisely as you must contact the CVS Caremark
Environmental, Health and Safety Department if you need to move the area
once you have it set up (send a fax to 401-216-0138). Each area of the store
(Front Store, Photo, and Pharmacy) must have collection containers set up.
There will be a set of containers for Front Store wastes, while Pharmacy and
Photo will only have one container each.
Building
Once an area has been designated as the hazardous waste collection area,
StrongPak
you will need to unpack the StrongPak materials and set up the plastic
Containers
collection containers. A separate container for each category of Front Store
hazardous waste will need to be set up. A container for Photo and a
container for Pharmacy must also be set up.
Cut open the pack of StrongPak containers and remove a total of 8
containers: one for Flammables, Flammable Aerosols, and Combustibles;
one for Corrosive Acids; one for Corrosive Bases; one for Oxidizers; one for
Toxics & State Regulated Wastes; one for Universal Wastes; one for Photo;
and one for Pharmacy.
© CVS/pharmacy
4
*NOTE: The StrongPak "Toxic Photo Waste" collection container will only be
used if the store operates a wet photo lab.
Continued on next page
16
CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS INFORMATION
CVS000010377
