2.3 SUMMARY OF CHEMICAL ANALYSES
As specified in San Joaquin County regulations, soil and ground -water samples will be
analyzed for BTEX, tetraethyl lead, ethylene dibromide, and TPH as gasoline. Table 1 presents a
summary of the chemical analyses to be performed on soil and ground -water samples.
2.4 FIELD METHODS AND PROCEDURES
The field methods and procedures described in this section serve as a guide for field
personnel involved in the tank closure activities and soil and ground -water sampling. The site-
specific field methods and procedures are based on standard operating procedures established by
PRC and applicable regulatory agency guidance.
2.4.1 Preliminary Activities
Site-specific data will be collected prior to field activities to help ensure that all
reasonable contingencies are considered. This data will be obtained from site reconnaissance,
interviews with facility personnel, and a review of data from any previous investigations.
Surface features such as valve boxes, manholes, trench scars, pumping stations, and
markings from previous utility locator service and geophysical investigations will be noted during
the site reconnaissance.
Prior to tank removal, the Navy's Public Works Department (PWD) will identify
underground utilities, including fuel, electrical, sewer, and water lines, and any other buried
features that may impact the tank removal. Following this identification, PRC will obtain a
utility clearance from the PWD.
' Land use will be an important factor potentially affecting removal activities and
subsequent remediation actions. Traffic control and parking restrictions will be established at
removal location in areas subject to vehicular traffic.
Site access requirements will be discussed with Navy personnel prior to mobilization. A
"kick-off" meeting with all removal action participants will be scheduled at the site prior to
mobilization to discuss any final preparations necessary to implement the removal actions. PRC
will coordinate with NCS personnel to have the product emptied from the UST located
immediately north of Tank 817 B-2 (Tank 817 B-1). PRC will coordinate with NCS Stockton
personnel on traffic restrictions and site controls once the final schedule is determined. A list of
10
