l
C]
Site Entry Procedures:
Based on preliminary data, the initial site entry will be performed in Level C PPE,
consisting of a full facepiece air -purifying respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, Tyvek suit
and steel -toed boots. Immediately after the initial site entry, a more detailed evaluation of the
site's specific characteristics shall be performed by the OSHSO in order to further identify
existing site hazards and to aid in the selection of the appropriate engineering controls and PPE
for the future tasks to be performed.
During the initial site entry, the following activities shall be conducted:
• Monitoring of the air in the breathing zone with a PID and CGI
• Visually observing for signs of actual or potential immediately dangerous to life or
health (IDLH) hazards or other dangerous conditions
• Providing a health and safety briefing in order for all employees to be aware of the
hazards associated with the job and how the hazards will be controlled.
• Identifying the exclusion zone, contaminant reduction zone, and support zone.
• Informing the personnel of emergency procedures. (Detailed information is provided
on Page 18, Emergency Procedures.)
Initial Level of Personal Protection:
( ) Level A
Rationale:
( ) Level B (X) Level C
( ) Level D
Since possible hazards on this job are inhalation of vapors from and contact with
contaminated soil, it is anticipated that Level C PPE during the initial site entry is sufficient to
protect workers from overexposure.
Methodology to be used to justify modifications of personal level of protection during work:
PPE level and changes for VOCs will be determined by measuring airborne concentrations
in the breathing zones for a minimum of 10 minutes. Levels must remain constant for a
minimum of 10 minutes to justify an upgrade or downgrade in PPE.
A-15
