We have awarded a
contract to remove an underground waste oil tank behind building 816-C on
Rough and Ready Island. Since this site has been identified as a CERCLA
site, we will not be obtaining a permit for this action per section 121 of
the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986. However, the tank
removal will be done in accordance with the requirements as set forth by the
state of California and San Joaquin County. The tank removal should start 7
December 1989 with completion by 13 December 1989.
Our purpose in taking this action is to remove the source of contamination in
a timely manner to stop further leakage. Any contamination present in the
soil will be addressed as a part of the remedial investigation.
Please direct any questions or comments you may have to Ms. Rebecca O'Dell at
(209) 944-0400.
Sincerely,
rw UU16--
R.
