per the manufacturer's specifications. Calibration and maintenance operations will be recorded
in a log and be maintained on site with the equipment. The PID will be calibrated at the
beginning of each workday. The gas used to calibrate the PID is 100 ppm Isobutylene. A bound
logbook will be kept to record all field readings. A calibration will be run at the end of each day,
at minimum, to insure that readings are within 25% of the initial calibration at the beginning of
the day or prior calibration if the OVA is recalibrated more during the day. If the difference
between calibrations is greater than 25%, the reading taken between calibrations will be suspect.
Only qualified individuals will be authorized to conduct air monitoring at the project
sites. These individuals will typically included the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) and/or
the CIH. Individuals must be knowledgeable of the limitations and accuracy of the specific
monitoring equipment being utilized.
Sampling strategies are highly variable depending upon the specific operations being
conducted on site. However, the primary objective is to continuously monitor the worker's
working environment (i.e. breathing zone), and possible exposure to off site receptors.
The DRI's will be used as work zone and breathing zone monitoring devices during
intrusive excavation and will be used as general area monitors when intrusive operations are not
being performed. The results of the DRI monitoring will be recorded in a logbook and will be
used to assess the adequacy of the level of personal protection and hazard management
procedures listed in this plan. DRI readings will be compared to the action levels. Upwind and
downwind areas of the work zone will be monitored; a wind direction device such as a wind sock
or tell -tail will be used to indicate wind direction.
If monitorin,, results indicate that the organic vapor concentrations exceed action levels,
appropriate measures will be taken by the Site Safety and Health Officer to ensure worker safety,
public health and regulatory compliance. Such measures may include, but are not limited to,
45
