r� <br />u <br />After removal of the tanks, the excavation was measured and mapped. Based on the <br />review of the analytical results from the stockpiled material (pea -gravel and soil), it was <br />concluded that the stockpiled material was suitable for re -use as backfill for the tank hole <br />Therefore, backfill material consisting of stockpiled material and Class H aggregate base <br />imported from an off -base facility was used as backfill for the excavation. The backfill was <br />placed in 8 -inch horizontal lifts and compacted to achieve 95 percent dry density. A smooth <br />drum compactor was used for compaction of backfill material. A field density test was conducted <br />to verify compaction. A nuclear test gauge was used to test compaction in the upper 12 inches of <br />the excavation. The soil compaction test report is included as Appendix E. The surface of the <br />tank excavation was finished with California Department of Transportation specified asphalt <br />concrete to match the existing grade. <br />13 <br />
