Waste Oil Tank Excavation Samolin
One excavation soil sample designated WO -9 was collected
from the excavation bottom, beneath the fill end of the
waste oil tank after it's removal at a depth of
approximately 9 feet below grade surface (bgs), and as
directed by Michael Kith as shown on Figure 2. The sample
was collected by removing the top few inches of soil from
the backhoe bucket then pushing the sampling tube into the
soil until full. Both samples from the excavation and
associated soil stockpile were analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPH) calculated as Gas and Diesel by EPA
Method 8015 (modified), Halogenated Volatile Organics (VOCs)
by EPA Method 8020/8010 and/or 8260, Total Oil and Grease
(TOG) by EPA Method 5520F, Luft Metals by EPA Method 7000
and Semi -Volatile Organic Priority Pollutants by EPA Method
- 8270. Sample depths and analysis are summarized in Table A.
Certified analytical reports are attached in Appendix A.
Product Line Sampling
Product piping trenches were excavated to expose and remove
piping from the fuel storage tanks to the dispenser islands.
Samples designated Dl through D6 were collected from beneath .
the former dispensers approximately 3 to 4 feet bgs. Samples
designated P1 through P11 were collected approximately 3.5
to 6 feet bgs in the piping trenches as shown on Figure 2.
Soil samples were collected from a backhoe bucket as earlier
described and trench samples were then analyzed for TPH-gas
by EPA Method 8015-, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and
Xylenes (BTEX) by EPA method 8020, and Oxygenated Gasoline
Additives by EPA Method 8260. Due to a diesel pump located
on the western pump island, samples D5, D6, P8, P9, P10, and
P11 were also analyzed for TPH as diesel by EPA Method 8015
modified. Sample depths and analytical summaries are found
in Table A, and certified analytical reports are attached in -
Appendix A.
Stockpile Sampling
Two stockpile samples designated WOSP(a&b) were collected
from the stockpile of soil generated (approximately 20 cubic
yards) during used oil tank removal activities, the two
samples were composited in the laboratory and analyzed as
one. Five stockpile samples designated PSP -1 through PSP -5
were collected from approximately 70 to 80 cubic yards
generated from the product piping removal and excavation
activities. These soil samples were collected by removing
the top 8 to 12 inches of soil and pushing a clean six-inch
U..-
