Am <br />TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETIN <br />THE G P (ARMOR SPRAY) <br />GA27 P is a specially formulated, chemically resistant, epoxy resin -based product, struc- <br />turally reinforced with glass fibers. It is specifically designed for building a new tank in a steel <br />storage tank, using Bridgeport Chemical's FUSION BONDING process. It eliminates corrosion <br />from within the tank and retards corrosion from outside elements in the soil. <br />This technical bulletin outlines the specifications of Bridgeport Chemical Corporation's <br />Glass Armor method for solving the extremely serious, costly, and hazardous problem of replac- <br />ing leaking underground gasoline storage tanks in the service station. <br />Gasoline by itself cannot cause corrosion, but water and oxygen that gasoline picks up <br />does the damage. At high -product temperatures, gasoline is more heavily saturated with air and <br />water than at lower temperatures. Then as the product cools, the solubility of water in gasoline <br />decreases and droplets of water form and settle out on the tank metal. When the gasoline <br />temperatures drop from 140'F. to 80*F., as much as 0.5 lbs. of water comes from 100 lbs. of <br />hydrocarbon (about 1,616 lbs. of gasoline). These figures indicate a 6,000 gallon tank could have <br />approximately 23 gallons of water in each load. <br />The rate of corrosion also depends on the type of gasoline and the type of crude used in the <br />refining process.
