Site Preparation and InstallaW Instructions
EMC UST Monitoring System
C. INSTALLATION.
Install each probe as follows (see Figure 21, "Capacitance
Probe Installation Requirements").
Figure 21. Capacitance Probe Installation Requirements.
1. Turn OFF power to the EMC system.
CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL THE PROBE IF ANY
LIQUID OTHER THAN THE PRODUCT TO BE DIS-
PENSED IS IN THE TANK. FAILURE TO COMPLY CAN
RESULT IN EQUIPMENT DAMAGE, INACCURATE
INVENTORY CONTROL, OR UNDETECTED POTEN-
TIAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH HAZARDS.
2. Make sure any liquid other than the product to be
dispensed has been pumped out of the tank.
NOTE: Capacitance probes contain a glass cylinder
which can be broken if the probes are dropped or
struck during handling and installation. In addition, all
probes are sensitive measuring devices and should be
handled carefully at all times.
3. Be sure there is no sludge in the bottom of the tank.
Sludge can clog the water -entry hole near the bottom of a
capacitance probe, resulting in inaccurate water height
readings from the probe.
4. Attach the probe cable connector to the mating plug on
the top of the probe. Be sure the connector is attached
securely by hand tightening the locking ring.
5. Hook the open end link of the strain relief chain to the
attachment point provided on the probe cable. Crimp the
link closed to prevent accidental detachment.
18
6. Carefully lower probe into the riser pipe until it gently
touches the bottom.
CAUTION: HANDLE PROBE CAREFULLY! STRIKING
OR DROPPING PROBE WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF CAL -
10 AND COULD CAUSE PERMANENT
DAMAGE.
7. Feed the two -wire probe cable (furnished with each
probe) up through the cap bushing and in through the
junction box bushing. Leave enough slack in the cable
between the cap and junction box to allow the cap to
easily reach the riserpipe. In addition, leave enough slack
under the riser cap to permit connection to the probe and
to allow the probe to rest on the bottom of the tank.
8. Using wiring nuts, connect the wires from the probe cable
to the probe field wires in the junction box (see Figure 22,
'Two -Wire Probe Field Wiring Diagram"). Be sure to ob-
serve proper polarity between the probe and monitor
wiring during installation.
",I NOTE: SEAL WIRE NUT CONNECTIONS AT THIS
M TIME USING epoxy sealant, furnished with each probe.
WARNING: EPDXY SEALANT MAY BE IRRITATING
TO EYES AND SKIN. MAY CAUSE SKIN SENSITI-
ZATION INSUSCEPTIBLE INDIVIDUALS. MAY BE
ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. EPDXY SEAL-
ANT CONTAINS EPDXY RESIN AND VINYL CYCLO -
HEXENE DIOXIDE. VINYL CYCLOHEXENE DIOX-
IDE HAS CAUSED SKIN CANCER IN ANIMAL
TESTS.
PRECAUTIONS: AVOID EYE AND SKIN CONTACT.
WEAR IMPERVIOUS GLOVES AND SAFETY GLAS-
SES. USE ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED AREAS.
Figure 22. Two -Wire Probe Field Wiring Diagram.
9. Tighten the cable bushing nuts on the probe riser cap and
junction box to ensure a water -tight seal at the probe
cable entry.
10. Secure the riser locking cap to the top of the riser pipe. A
padlock may be installed for added security.
Low
-212 WARNING: TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS
FROM BEING STRUCK BY VEHICLES DURING
WORK, BLOCK OFF YOUR WORK AREA DURING
INSTALLATION AND SERVICE.
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK WHICH
COULD KILL YOU, BE SURE AC POWER TO THE
EMC MONITOR IS OFF DURING INSTALLATION.
10 CAUTION: FLOATS MUST 13E AT 110170M OF PROBE
SHAFT 13EFORE STANDING THE PROBE UPRIGHT.
SIGNIFICANT FUEL AND WATER FLOAT DAMAGE
WILL OCCUR IF FLOATS ARE ALLOWED TO FALL
FREELY DOWN PROBE SHAFT.
J
WEATHERPROOF
JUNCTION BOX
(t PER PROBE)
t/2" RIGID
CONDUIT
1Blk
TO
FROM
MONITOR
PROBE
•
+ Wt
Figure 22.
