CAUiION: The FE Petro STP has two lsb4+ one for
tfia Typhon rystem and one for the tank oak detector
r must be vented to the tank port only. This k t`e port closest
to the tank. Do not conned a leek detedor to the syphon
port, as this will make the look detector lnopwre.'v*, causing It
to be, Incapable of detecting a look wtth nsultfng risk of
contamination of the onvlronm*nt
t. Install the copper tube pecked with the S -74 -ILD Into the
compression fittings just Installed In 7 above. sed trghfen firmly.
The tubing may be shortened.
! CAUTION: This Tins vents the air displaced by piston travel,
and drains any liquid which may look past tom* piston seal.
When Installing this tubing make aur* It 4 not crimped and
that it will drain properly or the look ds(odor will not open
property and could give a false Indication of a leak Failure to
Install and connect this tubing could rt='t in onvironmentat
contamination.
3. Tum power on al the bad center and tum cn s 'emerged pump
at a dispenser. Look for leaks at the parts )r v ked on. H there
are any leaks. Immediately turn off the pc-er. g : e bad center,
tag or lock out Che breaker, and repel the leaks.
10. Purge remaining air from the system as Wil:- s: 'ern on power at
the bad center, and dispense enough gasone `Jim the dispenser
farthest from the pump to remove all the air t—, :tet line. Repeat
this procedure with each disperser, working y.,.r way back to the
pump.
:f, on dispensing fuel In step 10 above, you and t* f.ow restricted
.o 1.1,9 to 3 GPM, the look dote -dor has net opor•od. This could be
due to sir trapped In the sysdem. Turn on Chs oubre-slbie pump at
the dlspeneof but do not dispense any fuel. W'e't err"roxlms!*!y 2-3
minutes for the punfp to pressurize the ryadern, t: -on purge the air
from ail dispenoors so In stop 10 above.
This look detector performs a line leak test within Lhcut 3-4 **ponds
from the time the subm*m1ble pump Is turned on at the dispenser.
Air or vapor In the system will cause this t-4 to be longer, In
proportion to the amount of air or vapor In the line-. K the nozzle is
opened before the completion of the line tee!, t"e k+k detector will
detect this opening as a look and restricted flew wail result Close
the nozzle for a period of tm* to allow completion of the line t**d,
and the look detector will Wiow full flow again, p!v%Sded there Is no
other **Cape of feet.
In order to property check a line look detodor, it is necessary to
have a graduated cylinder (usually g-sdue..sd in milliliters) of
approxlmat*fy 30o ml volume, a testing setup cons s I hg of a piece
of flexlble tubing approxime*ly 30" long with a 1:4 I.cr'T mals tittlng
on on* end to a Too on the other and, to whleh a 0 to 50 Psi
preeoure gouge is Installed. On the other side of :he Te* a valve Is
connected to th* Too with a short nipple. A stop w-kch or a watch
with a aw*+p second hand Is also required. -
11. Tim If pump off at the bad center, and re:ncve ",a pipe plug in
the shear -valve, beteg careful to make adeq;ate Provision to trap
the squid that escapes to prevent errhnronrne!ntai contamination; and
install the test fodure into the shear -valve port.
Some shear -valve port are tapped 318" NPT and a reducer bushing
must be used before installing the test nature.
12. With the valve In the toot fbdtxe closed, urn on Ce submersible
pump at the bad center and at the dispenser end look for leaks at
the port of the shear -valve. K there ars a.-nyy leaks, immediately
shut the pump oil at both the dispenser and at the bad center, tag
or lock out the breaker, and cared the leaks.
13. Turn the pump on again at both Line bad center and at the
dispenser and observe the pressure gauge. 'itis pressure should
increase quickly tea to 15 to 18 psi, and hesitate for 3.4 seconds Or
longer ft there is air or vapor trapped in Ce system, and then
Increase to approxlmatefy 21332 psi, or 40.48 psi til a High Pressure
Pump. •-
14. Turn the pump off at it* dispenser and open to valve 0n the test
fixture, draining the fluid Into a suitable container, and observe the
pressure drops to zero. Tum the submerrsble pump on again at
the dispenser and direct the fluid Into a sutlabie receptacle while
observing the pressure gauge, which should rot h=ase above 18
psi, providing the vatye allows more than 5 gallons per hour (gph)
past it.
15. Gtadually close down the flow from the test fxttre until a flow rate
C4 4 2 gph, which Is 265 mi68Aers per minute or 4 42 milliliters per
second, is chbtafned bythe fluid Into tho graduate_ -%%-leder
and recording the time, may take some Pse lee t, ;+t this
exactly right. when this teak rate has been obtained, t. n tithe
submersible pump off.
18. After at least one minute, turn the submersible pump ba:k on at
the dispenser and observe that the pressure does not gat higher
than 15.18 pet. This step verities the leak detector has taxected a
leak equfvalent to approximately 3 gph @ 10 psi as requi- tY the
EPA. (Our lab tests have shown 4.24.4 gph @ 17 ;cu is its
equivalent of 3.0 gph @ 10 psi In gasoline or rr2 S -P a at
approtomalely eW F)
17. Close the valve on the test fbdtre and obeerw Che ; essure
Increases to 213.32 pal. Tum the subrnersble purr» oft aid drain
the pressure back to zero.
18. Tum the pump off at the bad center, and remove the tri i;,dhre
and replace the pipe plug after apptying UL Gase'-ti'_. non -
hardening. non-toxic pipe tread sealant.
19. As a final check to assure Ce leak detector has been rhes e+d and
is working property, before leaving Lha &Winn preform the k owing
check: (It will take two people to perform this chock.)
a. Turn the submersible pump on at the disperser. Dispe-ne -.,duct
into a five gaiion container to assure hull flow is being
obtained.
b. Leaving Line dispenser switch turned on, turn the power 0t1 at the
submersible pump circuit breaker (load center) and keep the
nozzle open. Let stand idle for approtdmalety 1530 ser+vs.
C. Turn on the power at the shbmembie pump circuit breaker.
The flow out of the still open nozzle should be no more tui
3 gallons per minute.
d. Gose the nozzle with Line submersbte pump still running a+d
wait a few w=ands or unlit you feel the pressure increase in
69 line when the leak defector opens.
