(Shaw) is pleased to present the results of the samples collected from
the drummed water at the two above-mentioned AT&T facilities in Bakersfield, California.
According to AT&T, the water was generated during testing of the on-site diesel underground
storage tank (UST) sumps. A total of four drums containing sump water are located at the M
Street facility, and two drums at the 20`h Street facility. The samples collected by Shaw were
analyzed for hazardous waste characteristics to identify appropriate disposal alternatives in
accordance with the California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22, Chapter 11, Article 3,
Section 66261.20 to 66261.24. A summary of the field activities and analytical results is
included in the following sections.
Water Sampling Activities
On December 2, 2008, Shaw personnel visited both sites to collect samples of the drummed
sump water. In order to collect a representative sample, a bailer was lowered into each of the
drums, with a portion of the water then transferred to the appropriate laboratory -supplied
container. After collection, the sample containers were then labeled, sealed, and placed in an
insulated chest with ice pending transport to the analytical laboratory. A copy of the chain -of -
custody document is included in Attachment 1.
Sample Analyses and Results
The two water samples were submitted to McCampbell Analytical, Inc., an ELAP-certified
laboratory located in Pittsburg, California, for analysis for constituents associated with diesel
fuels. This analysis included total recoverable hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D) by EPA method
8015M, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA method 8260, semi -volatile organic
compounds (SVOCs) by EPA method 8270, Title 22 California Assessment Manual CAM/CCR
Metals by EPA method 200.8, and a 96 -hour CA Title 22 Acute Fish Bioassay by Department of
Fish and Game (DFG) method CA DFG (Polinsi & Miller). The samples were also analyzed for
reactivity, corrosivity and ignitability (RCI) characteristics in accordance with SW -846, Chapter
7 and for pH by EPA method 150.1.
