PLC-5000 Site Controller, LD-2000 and LD-2000 PLC
1.0 Introduction
This report contains the results of testing conducted by Ken Wilcox Associates, Inc. on
the Vaporless PLC-5000 Site Controller with Automatic Electronic Line Leak Detection
and the 98 LD-2000 and LD-2000 PLC Mechanical Line Leak Detectors. The PLC-
5000 Site Controller interfaces to the LD-2000 PLC. The LD-2000 is a stand-alone
Mechanical Line Leak Detector which does not require any electrical interface. The
evaluation was conducted at the Fuels Management Research Center in Grain Valley,
Missouri from November 1997 to April 1998.
A full EPA evaluation was conducted for Monthly Monitoring/Annual Line Tightness with
0.1 gal/h leak simulations on a fiberglass pipeline that was 3.25 inches in diameter by
200 feet in length. The fiberglass pipeline contained gasoline and had a total volume of
86 gallons. Abbreviated testing was conducted on the fiberglass pipeline to verify that
the mechanical line leak detector portion of the system could detect a 3 gal/h leak in the
same manner as previously evaluated versions of the LD-2000.2 Abbreviated testing
was also conducted on a 215 ft. flexible pipeline for Hourly Testing (3 gal/h) and for
Monthly Monitoring/Annual Line Tightness Testing with 0.1 gal/h leak simulations to
demonstrate the system's performance on flexible piping.
The official results of the testing have been reported in Attachment A for Monthly
Monitoring and Annual Line Tightness Testing on the appropriate EPA forms, "Results
of the U.S. EPA Standard Evaluation."
2 Three previous evaluations were conducted on versions of the LD-2000 for Hourly Testing.
Evaluation reports written by KWA, Inc. for the following models of the LD-2000 are available from
Vaporless Manufacturing: LD-2000 and LD-20005, 11/19/90; LD-2000E and LD-2000E-S, 12/11/92; LD-
2000T and LD-2000T-S, 7/13/93.
Page 1
