SITE LOCATION
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Site 300), Corral Hollow
Road, Building 829 High Explosives Burn Facility, Tracy, California.
SCOPE OF WORK
Underground storage tank (UST) 829-D1 U1 , just south of the fenced
burn area, will be closed by excavation and removal. The site for
excavation will be cordoned off for the protection of other LLNL
personnel. Solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) will be introduced into the
tank to displace oxygen within the tank. When the oxygen level
within the tank is at or below 10%, the tank will be removed. (The
piping was removed by mistake but has been retained at the site.)
The tank and the piping will be transported as hazardous waste to a
disposal facility. If a concrete anchor pad is present beneath the
tank, it will be removed as part of this tank closure. Soil samples
will be collected by LLNL's Environmental Protection Department
(EPD) for laboratory analysis. Soil will be stockpiled on and covered
by polyethylene sheets. The excavation, trenches and stockpiled soil
will be secured with barricades pending the analysis of the soil
samples and subsequent review of the laboratory results by the LLNL
EPD.
ON-SITE ORGANIZATION
Site Safety Officer (SSO):
Bill Goodwin
Responsible for implementing the project and obtaining any
necessary personnel or supplies to complete the project safely
and in a timely manner.
• Monitors adherence to the SHASP and halts site operations if
the SHASP is being violated or if a hazardous condition arises
at the site.
Contractors (Company)
(Supervisor)__
(Workers)
(Company)
(Supervisor)_
(Workers)
D-2
