Box 2009
Stockton, Ca 95201
Subject: Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized (Leak)/
Contamination Site Report, Tank 827-132U1 at Building 827A
Attached is an Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release (Leak)/
Contamination Site Report for tank system 827-D2U1 at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL) Site 300.
Underground storage tank 827-D2U1 at Building 827 was a 280 gallon single-wall
carbon steel tank that supplied diesel fuel to the Building 827A standby generator.
On June 22, 1994, the tank system was closed and the tank was removed from the
ground. Soil samples collected from within the excavation and from the soil
removed from the excavation were submitted for analyses of TPH-D (diesel fuel)
and BTXE (benzene, toluene, xylene, and ethylbenzene). On Friday, July 1, the
results of analyses were received from the Quality Assurance Office of the
Environmental Management Technologies Section, LLNL Environmental
Protection Department, after having been reviewed and approved. Bill Snavely of
your office was notified of these results via telephone on the same day.
The soil sample collected from the excavated soil and fill gravel showed 11.0 mg/kg
diesel fuel in soil, according to the TPH-D analysis. The BTXE analysis showed
"ND" (not detected). A soil sample was also collected within the excavation at a
depth of ten feet. Analyses showed "ND" for both TPH-D and BTXE.
An Equal Opportunity Employer•University of California•P.O.Box 808 Livermore,CA 94551-9900•Telephone(510)422-1100 •Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL L VMR
