Vaporicss Manufacturing, Inc.
8700 E. Long Mesa Drive
Prescott Valley,AZ 86314
520 775-5191 * 800 367-0185 * FAX 520 775-5309
December 16, 1999
George Takemori
Teichert& Son, Inc.
PO Box 15002
Sacramento, CA 95851
Ph: 916 386-6916
FAX: 916 386-1256
Pages: 2
Dear Mr. Takemori:
I received your FAX and am making the assumption that you are not having problems
with the smaller horsepower pump that shares sump number 1. Therefore, I will address
what I believe your problem is with the 5 horsepower pumps.
I understand that pump#2 is delayed 15 seconds after pump# l comes on. I understand
that there is no solenoid where piping comes above ground. I understand there is no ball
valve where piping comes above ground.
A VMI LD-3000 leak detector works in the following way: Assume that line pressure is
0 psi. The pump is turned on. The leak detector is in the `Reset' position, allowing 1I/2
gallons per minute to pass through it, re-pressuring the line. When line pressure reaches
21 psi, the leak detector moves to the`Leak Search' position and allowing 2 gallons per
hour to pass through. When the line pressure reaches 24 psi, the leak detector moves to
the `Full Flow' position. All of this occurs in just 7 to 10 seconds. The leak detector
stays in `Full Flow' until the line pressure drops to approximately 7 psi, at which time the
leak detector drops back to the `Reset' position.
As I see Drawing# 10710, what is probably occurring is the driver hooks the bottom
loader up and starts the pump. Pump# 1 turns on, whatever pressure is being held in the
line immediately drops to almost 0 psi and the leak detector goes to the `Reset' position,
allowing approximately 1 '/2 gallons per minute to pass through,it. 15 seconds later,
pump#2 turns on.
That leak detector is also in the 'Reset' position and also allows approximately 1 1/2
gallons per n)iniute to pass through it. Line pressure never has the opportunity to build up
to 21 psi to allow either leak detector to even reach the `Leak Search' position, let alone
the `Full Flow' position,
