Before you begin • Read, understand and follow these instructions. • Barricade the tank area until job is completed. • Complete the installation checklist Pub. No. 8894. A copy of the properly completed installation checklist must be retained by the tank owner and/or installation contractor to validate any future warranty claim. • Check with local authorities for final precision testing requirements, if any. • If you have questions on other installation details, such as specific procedures for adding tanks to an existing installation or alternate installation techniques, contact your local Fluid Containment Sales Representative. If he or she is not available, call Tank Technical Support, Conroe, Texas, 409-756-7732. • If you have other questions regarding tank modifications, such as adding fittings or manways, or a tank repair, contact Fluid Containment Field Service: Field Service Supervisors - 814-542-8520 Al. Handling • The customer is responsible for rigging, unloading and securing the tank. • All Single -Wall and Double -Wall Tanks must be mechani- cally unloaded. They may not be self -unloaded by the driver. • For temporary storage of tanks at job site: ❑ Read Placement Instructions (in the shipping packet) prior to unloading tanks. ❑ Set on smooth ground (no protruding rocks, or hard objects). ❑ Single -Wall - chock with sandbags provided. ❑ Double -Wall - place tanks on the shipping pads and chock with sandbags provided. ❑ If high winds are anticipated, tie the tanks down to prevent damage. Lifting Tanks • Use ONLY lifting equipment to move tanks. • Check capacity of lifting equipment before hoisting or moving tanks. • USE ALL LIFT LUGS PROVIDED to lift tank. • Guide the tanks with guide lines. DO NOT • Roll* or drop tank as this could damage the tank Angle 60°-90° \/ • Use chains or cables around tanks, as this could damage tank. Stand on tank while it's being lifted. This could result in personal injury. * Tank may be rolled on pads during air/soap test. Ensure fittings and/or collars do not contact ground. A2. Bed and Backfill The use of approved backfill material is critical to long term tank performance. Failure to use approved back- fill may result in tank failure. • DO • Replace all excavated native soil with approved backfill of proper size and gradation. Use backfill which meets • ASTM C-33 paragraph 7.1 for quality and soundness. See approved materials, below. • Require your backfill supplier to certify that the backfill meets this specification. • Keep backfill dry and free of ice in freezing conditions. • Use only approved backfills.
