When excavation was completed, four soil samples were collected
from the sidewalls and the bottom of the excavation using the
' backhoe bucket. Soil samples were collected in clean, 2 X 3-inch
brass tubes. The ends of the tubes were covered with aluminum
sheets, capped and sealed with tape. The samples were stored on ice
' and transported to a Alpha Analytical Laboratories in Ukiah. The
samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as
gasoline) and volatile aromatics (BTE&X) in accordance with EPA
' methods 8015m and 8020, respectively.
3.2 Groundwater Monitoring
' On June 6, 1993 , a representative of GeoAudit visited the site to
collect a water sample from monitoring well MW-3 . A Solinist water
level meter was used to measure the depth to water. The standing
' water was purged using a three-stage purge pump. A Hydac water
analyzer was used to measure the temperature, pH and conductivity
of purged water at two-gallon intervals until 14 gallons had been
purged (Table 1) . The well was further developed to reduce the
' turbidity, by pumping an additional 50 gallons of water. The water
was stored on site in DOT-approved drums.
A water sample was collected in three 40-m1 EPA vials using a
disposable plastic bailer. The sample was transported in a chilled
container to WEST Laboratories in Davis and analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline) and purgeable aromatics
(BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 602 .
On July 6, MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 were monitored. A Solinist water
level meter was used to measure the depth to water in each well
(Table 2) . The wells were then purged of 10 to 12 gallons using a
three-stage purge pump. Temperature, pH and conductivity of the
I purge water were measured at two-gallon intervals using a Hydac
water analyzer (Table 3) . The water was stored on site in DOT-
approved drums.
Water samples were collected from each well in three 40-m1 EPA
vials using a disposable plastic bailer. The samples were
transported in a chilled container to McCampbell Analytical in
Pacheco and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as
gasoline) and purgeable aromatics (BTE&X) in accordance with EPA
methods 8015m and 602 .
3.3 Stockpiled Soil Sampling
On 12 July 19931 six samples were collected from the stockpiled
soil. The samples were collected in clean 2 X 3-inch brass tubes.
The ends of the tubes were covered with aluminum sheets, capped and
sealed with tape. The samples were stored on ice and transported to
McCampbell Analytical in Pacheco. The samples were analyzed for
total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline) and volatile
aromatics (BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020,
3
