This investigation was
conducted to assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination associated with former
' underground storage tanks (UST's) located at the site. This report was prepared by Condor at
the request of Mr Keith Tania of Oil Equipment Service (OES)
2.0 SITE HISTORY
' In May, 1993, four UST's (T1, T2, T3 and T4) were removed from the site and soil
samples were collected from beneath two UST's (T5 and T6) partially located beneath the
' Idlewild Market building. The six UST's were located at two separate locations, Pit 1 and Pit 2,
as shown on Figure 2, Appendix A. Pit 1 contained T1 through T3 and Pit 2 contained T4
through T6 Laboratory analyses of soil samples collected from Pit 1 indicated hydrocarbon
contamination was present beneath the former location of T1 and 73 at 9.0 to 9.5 feet bgs. No
evidence of hydrocarbon contamination was detected at or above the reported laboratory
' detection limits in the sample collected from beneath T2 at 12 feet bgs. No evidence of
hydrocarbon contamination was detected at or above the reported laboratory detection limits in
' the samples collected from Pit 2 San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental
Health Department (SJCPHS,EHD) stated in a letter dated July 23, 1993, that no further
investigation was required m the area of Pit 2.
Immediately following the collection of soil samples from beneath T1 through T3,
' petroleum stained soil within Pit 1 was over excavated At the conclusion of the over-
excavation, field observations indicated an area of gray, petroleum stained soil from a depth of
I CONDOR
