A hard pan layer (approximately 2 feet <br /> thick) is present at the 6 foot depth in Pit 1. Moderate <br />' petroleum odors and staining were noted in the soil in Pat 1 . No <br />' staining or petroleum odors were noted an Pit 2 . Groundwater was <br /> not encountered in the tank excavations . The excavated soil was <br />' placed on pavement adjacent to the tank excavations for temporary <br /> storage pending laboratory results. <br /> I <br /> A total of four (4 ) soil samples were collected immediately <br />' following the removal of the tanks ( 1 soil sample beneath each <br /> tank) . The soil samples were collected by driving a clean brass <br /> sleeve into freshly exposed soil brought to the surface in a <br /> Ibackhoe bucket.
