Idlewild Market
M-ty 23, 1996
Page -3-
4 0 MODELING PARAMETERS
4 1 Climatic Parameters
The climatic parameters used in the modeling were obtained from RISKPRO's Climate Database The
database is a regional compilation of climatic data collected at various weather stations located throughout
the State of California The climatic data in the RISKPRO database, collected from a weather station
located in Stockton, California, was used based on the proximity of Stockton to the Idlewild site The
Iclimatic input parameters for each run are located in Appendix B
I4 2 Soil Parameters
The SESOIL model assumes that the subject site is completely unpaved The soil input parameters were
I obtained from RISKPRO's Soil input database The soil type (sand-generic) was used as a conservative
measure Based on the soil boring logs, the soils at the Idlewild site range from indurated silt and silty
sand to fine, medium, and coarse grained sand The soil input parameters for each run are located in
Appendix B
4 3 Chemical Parameters
The chemical input parameters for toluene and ethyl benzene were obtained from RISKPRO's common
chemicals database The chemical input parameters for xylene and EDB were obtained from an internal
ieport for Geraghty & Miller Inc The chemical input parameters for each run are located in Appendix
B
I4 4 Application Input Parameters
Four (4) soil layers were utilized in the model The first layer consisted of clean bdckfll material
overlying the contaminated soil zone (approximately 290 cm thick) The second layer was the
contaminated soil layer (approximately 46 cm thick) The third soil layer consisted of the remaining
I vadose zone overlying the capillary fringe (approximately 415 cm thick) and the fourth layer was modeled
as the capillary fringe (approximately 15 cm thick) In addition, 4 sublayers were assigned to layer 3 to
provide a more detailed profile above the capillary fringe The entire soil column (from the ground
surface to estimated seasonal high groundwater) was 766 cm or approximately 25 vertical feet The
horizontal surface area of the soil column was estimated to be 16,500 cm2 or approximately 3 5 x 5 feet
The soil column and it's dimensions are illustrated in Geologic Cross Section A-A', Figure 3, Appendix
A
The simulation years varied for each application depending on the persistence of the chemical compound
I being modeled The chemical concentrations for xylene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and ethylene dibromide
used in the model were based on the laboratory data obtained from sample #PITI-N-10 collected during
k
I J* CONDOR
