Hwy. 12
Victor CA 95253
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the "Site Assessment Work Plan" dated January 18, 2000 that was
submitted by Chaney, Walton & McCall (LLC) (CW&M) on behalf of the above referenced
site and has the following comments.
The work plan proposes to investigate the subsurface in the area of a former underground
storage tank (UST) with two shallow hollow-stem auger soil borings. One boring will be
drilled through the former tank pit area; the other will be located approximately 5-10 feet
away in an as yet undetermined direction. Soil samples for analysis will be collected with
a split spoon sampler in stainless steel or brass sleeves. The proposed depths of the
borings are 15-20 feet below surface grade (bsg).
PHSIEHD approves the work plan with the fallowing conditions. The boring through the
former tank pit should extend to at least 20-feet bsg. At the time of the tank removal one
soil sample was collected from the bottom of the excavation at 9-feet bsg. PHSIEHD
does not feel that this sample needs to be repeated. Samples for analysis should be
collected at 15 and 20-feet bsg. If field screening with a photo ionization detector (PID) or
field observations indicate contamination is present at these levels, then the boring should
be extended. The lateral boring also should extend to a minimum of 20-feet bsg.
Please proceed with submittal of a PHSIEHD well permit application and required $89.00
permit fee. Include with the submittal a copy of the site specific Health and Safety Plan.
Please forward a copy of the updated site map with the locations of the proposed borings
marked on it to PHSIEHD as soon as it is available. If you have any questions or
comments concerning the work pian approval conditions please call Lori Duncan at (209)
468-0337. Forty-eight hours notice to PHSIEHD is required before field mobilizations.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margaret agorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Richard Casias, CW&M
Ilene Miles, Dole Food Co.-Asset Management
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
