r
Dole Fresh Fruit
8751 Hwy 12, Victor
Page 2
An error was made when the substance was.listed on the "Notification of Hazardous
Waste Discharge" and the "Unauthorized Release Form" (UAR);gasoline should have
been listed. The date notified, August 8, 1999, on the forms is the date the PHS/EHD
staff made the determination that a release from the UST had occurred which may have
impacted groundwater. The date discovered on the UAR is the date PHS/EHD staff was
notified that the stockpiled soil had been placed in the former UST excavation. There
was no further site evaluation until Dole Fresh Fruit requested a"no further action
required" letter from the UST unit of PHS/EHD. The site was referred to the Site
Mitigation unit of PHS/EHD for evaluation because the contaminant levels in the
stockpiled soil placed back in the UST excavation exceeded levels allowed by the "site
closure evaluation" form used by the UST unit staff.
For the reasons stated above, further investigation of the vertical and lateral extent of
contamination at this site is required. A work plan to begin the investigation should be
submitted to PHS/EHD by January 15, 2000. . .
If you have any questions contact Margaret Lagorio, Supervisng REHS, at (209) 468-
3449.
Sincerely,
X
onna Heran, H , Direct
Environmental Health Division
Enc
c: Chaney, Walton & McCall—Richard Casias
CVRWQCB —Marty Hartzell
