Field Report
Linden short stop soil Sampling
for Mr. K. santoe
On 6 September 1990, ROY F. WESTON, INC. (WESTON) conducted a
sampling program at the Linden Short Stop site located at 18978 E.
Highway 26 in Linden, California. The field work was conducted in
an effort to more clearly characterize the presence of petroleum
hydrocarbon and related compounds in soil around and beneath former
underground storage tank and associated fuel line locations. To
examine the potential for groundwater contamination, a nearby
A irrigation well was also sampled. All work conducted on site was
overseen by Ms. B. Reuss representing San Joaquin County Public
Health Services Environmental Health Division.
Eight soil samples were collected
from two excavated pits on the
site, and from soil stockpile;. derived from these pits. The pits
were designated Pits A and B by previous workers on the site (see
. Figure A-1) . The samples collected from the pits and stockpiles
F are named and described as follows:
Sample Name Sam le Location
A 81 Sampled soil from the new stockpile recently
derived from the re-excavation of pit B.
82 Sampled soil from the old stockpile derived
from the initial excavation of pit B.
k S3 Sampled soil from pit B, newly excavated area,
West wall, 2.5 £t. below ground surface (BGS) ,
18 inches into the wall.
84 Sampled soil from pit B, newly excavated area,
22 inches beneath bottom of 5 ft. deep excava-
tion.
S5 Sampled soil fromit B newly P , y exc avated area,
east Wall, 2.5 ft. BGS, 20 inches into the
wall.
SG Sampled soil from pit B, newly excavated area,
north mall, 2.5 ft. BGS, 18 inches into the
1.
wall.
87 Sampled soil from pit A, 20 inches beneath
bottom of the pit, estimated 22 ft. BGS.
Se Sampled soil from the spread stockpile derived
from the initial excavation of pit A
- - - --------------Samples-collected--frcm-the walls-of-pit B were only done so after
--
considerable soil had been removed from the wall using an iron bar
tr and/or shovel. The samples were taken from the exposed native soil
in the wall at the specified depth below ground surface (BGS) . . A
two inch diameter stainless steel sample driver lined with a. brass
tube was used to collect these samples.
! . Sampling soils from beneath the floor of each of.the two pits was
accomplished by first augering a hole using a four inch diameter
