o N&M automotive
August 31 2000
d
Conclusions and Recommendations
One boring was advanced at the former tank pit area and MW-1 at M & M Automotive
Only trace levels of Ethylbenzene and Xylene were detected in soil Neither MTBE nor
oxygenate compounds nor EDB and 1 2-DCA contaminants were observed in any soil or
groundwater sample The TPHG data for B-14-3 at 11-feet did not match their laboratory
standards, indicative of a highly degraded fuel contaminant depleted in volatile content
Contaminants were not observed in soil samples collected at 23-feet, 28-feet and 32-feet
Groundwater contaminants observed are interpreted as residuals, consistent with
observations made during the tank pit excavation
In our opinion based upon this information, the previous tank removal and soil
excavation appear to have removed the bulk of contaminants Relatively low
concentrations of residual TPHG contaminants remain in the capillary fringe region at B-
14, and dissolved contaminants decrease in groundwater An estimate of remaining
. contaminants was presented in our October 10, 1999 report, that remaining contaminant
quantity was estimated as a very small volume Historic data show that the dissolved
plume had not moved, and had remained centered at MW-1 where residual contaminants
are present
Wright has excavated the contaminated soil in the vicinity of the former tank pit and
MW-1, and followed the contamination to the furthest extent practicable The City of
Tracey prohibited entry into, and any excavation into the 10"' Street Some discolored
soil and residual contaminants are likely to have remained at this location, which
corresponds to the former position of MW-1 at the curb of 10"' Street IN our opinion
this is the residual source of contaminants observed in the Boring B-14
Wright recommends that upon review of this report and direction from PHS-EHD,
Wright will prepare the work plan for monitoring well placement, if required, as
discussed in our previously approved work plan Alternatively, should monitoring well
replacement not be required, Wright recommends that this site be closed at this time
Page 5
St7/mso/cusdm&m
