S
f
9110 Thornton 'Road Chronology
Page 3
Remediation.Summary
Groundwater extraction occurred
between May 1986 and August,ugust 1990 utilizing
MW 1 , MW4, MW 12, PW 1, PW2, and RW 1 . Approximately 1 .6 million gallons of
t
contaminated groundwater were extracted with the recovery of 760 gallons of free
petroleum hydrocarbon product.
The soil vapor extraction system operated between January 1990 and January
1991 , initially permitted by a 90 day emergency variance through the local air
pollution control district. :The soil vaporextraction system utilized MW1 , MW3,
MW4, RW1 , VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. Four regenerative blowers were used
simultaneously yielding between 80 - 160 standard cubic feet per minute. The
combined effluent, constituting approximately 209 million cubic feet of air/vapor
was treated using three 2,000 pound carbon reactors in series. Approximately
3,800 pounds of gasoline was extracted and treated using activated carbon
adsorption. An estimated 576 gallons of petroleum hydrocarbon product was
recovered.
Natural attenuation processes wereAn effect and constituted the sole remediation
method between January 1991 and 1996.
Tank Removal Sampling Results
Sample/Depth TPH-gas Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene Xylene
Ti E 1 11.42' <1.0 <.003 <.003 <..003 <.003
T1 W / 13.42' <1.0 <.003 .<.003 <.003 <.003
TH / 13.42' <1.0 <.003 <.003 <.003 <.003
T2W 1 13.0' <1.0 <.003 <.003 <.003 <.003
TH / 13.0' <1.0 <.003 <.003 <.003 <.003
T3W / 13.01' <1.0 <.003 <.003 <.003 <.003
Trenchl / 3' <1.0 <.003 <.003 .004 .019
Trench212.5' 2,100 <.150 47.0 43.0 250.0 .
Tank samples collected on September 16, 1991
Piping samples/trench collected on September 17, 1991
li.
