San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: SOUTHLAND CORPORATION STORE NO. 20680; 9110 THORNTON ROAD; STOCKTON, CA
Dear Mr. Schneider:
This letter is provided to notify you of the positive analytical results we have received for the Ivy Motel
domestic well (#9172) located up-gradient of the subject site. A reap is attached for your review
depicting the location of domestic well #9172.
As you are aware, well #9172 is sampled monthly as part of the routine monthly domestic well
sampling program. Detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons have not been detected in
well #9172 since early 1988. Detectable concentrations were reported from the August 26, 1991
sampling as follows:
• Xylene at 0.9 ppb
• TPH-as-gasoline at 31 ppb
The laboratory results reported below detection limits for benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene. Copies
of the laboratory report are enclosed for your review.
Based on the results of the laboratory analysis, the well was resampled on September 12, 1991. The
results of that analysis confirmed the positive detection of xylene and TPH-as-gasoline as follows:
• Xylene at 0.7 ppb
• TPH-as-gasoline at 10 ppm {TPH detection limit = 10 ppb}
Again, no detectable concentrations of benzene, toluene or ethylbenzene were reported. Copies of the
laboratory report are enclosed for your review.
The maximum contaminant level (MGL) for xylene is 1,750 ppb (22 CCR 64444.5). Despite the fact
that the reported results are far below state drinking water standards, the anomalous appearance of
detectable concentrations of xylene and TPH-as-gasoline in the up-gradient domestic well warrant
reporting,
093ODS 1.SOU
Offices throughout the U.S..Canada and Overseas
