Box 404
Pleasanton, Ca. 94566-0040
Re: Soil Contamination Abatement Options 7-Eleven Store 9110
Thornton Road, Stockton, California
Dear Dave,
INTRODUCTION
This letter is provided to address concerns raised by
Mr. Gordon Lee Boggs of the California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Central Valley Region in regards to the hydrocarb-
on soil contamination existing beneath the 7-Eleven Store pump
island at 9110 Thornton Road in Stockton, California. As you
know the subsurface soil contamination resulted from an inadvert-
ant leak of unleaded gasoline from a product line beneath the
pump island. The purpose of addressing the soil contamination is
that the adsorbed hydrocarbons act as a continuing source for
dissolved contamination due to fluctuations of the water table
and vertical percolation of surface infiltration through the
contaminated soil horizon. The installation of a soil venting
system to protect nearby buildings from hydrocarbon vapor
impacts and to provide some volatilization (cleanup) of hydro-
carbons in the soil pore spaces beneath the pump island was
presented in Groundwater Technology Inc, ' s Hydrocarbon Abatement .
Program Proposal dated September 1, 1986. The following text
outlines 'a number of soil treatment options, including soil
venting, with estimated costs for implementation of each option.
These soil treatment options would be implemented in addition to
and/or in conjunction with the presently proposed product
recovery and groundwater treatment system.
Other offices:Redondo Beach.CA;Tampa, FL;Mandeville,LA;Norwood,MA;Novi.Ml;
Minneapolis, MN;Greenville.Nli;Chadds Ford,PA;Montreal,Quebec,Canada
1Y
