' Project Quarterly Update Report July 28, 1992
Southland, 9110 Thornton Road, Stockton, Califomia 3
During this reporting period, no petroleum odors or separate-phase hydrocarbons were detected in
any of the monitoring wells or pumping wells
' 2.2 Groundwater Sampling and Analyses
' Sampling of the operational groundwater monitoring wells (i e , wells which contained enough water
to sample) was performed on June 29, 1992 Analyses of the samples collected on June 29, 1992,
' verified that benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), and total petroleum hydrocarbons
(TPH)-as-gasoline concentrations were below detection limits, except for the samples collected from
' monitoring well MW-1 and MW-18 The TPH-as-gasoline concentrations reported for samples from
wells MW-1 and MW-18 were 48 parts per billion (ppb) and 19 ppb, respectively Samples were
' collected according to Groundwater Technology's standard operating procedures (Appendix A)
Groundwater sampling was conducted by first purging water from each well using a polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) bailer Each well was purged of a minimum of four well volumes of water by hand
' balling, unless the wells could be purged dry The groundwater was then allowed to recover to at
least 80 percent of the original static water level before sampling The groundwater samples were
collected using an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved Teflon® sampler A well-water
bailer was lost down monitoring well MW-9 on March 30, 1992, rendering the well unsamplable A
second attempt to remove the baller was unsuccessful on June 29, 1992 Another attempt will be
made on July 31, 1992
' Water samples were collected from the routinely sampled domestic wells three times during this
reporting period, on April 21, May 28, and June 29, 1992 The routinely sampled domestic wells are
' listed In Table 3
' All samples were collected in laboratory-supplied containers, preserved, labeled, and stored on ice
Samples were transported under chain-of-custody protocol to a Cal€fomla-certified laboratory, GTEL
' Environmental Laboratories, Inc (GTEL) in Concord, Califomia Each sample was analyzed for
BTEX and TPH-as-gasdine using modified EPA Methods 5030/8020/8015
' The analytical results showed detectable concentrations of toluene, xylenes and TPH-as-gasoline NgL
only In the water sample collected from domestic well 9172 {Ivy Motel) on April 21, 1992 The LAMA 1
' analytical results reported a TPH-as-gasoline of 21 ppb Analytical results for the other samples
collected from the domestic wells showed no concentrations of dissolved BTEX and TPH-as-gasoline
PA GROUNDWATER
__ ;TECHNOLOGY, INC
