Report of Closure Activities 3 <br /> Barbara Drake,26485 North Thomton Road,Thornton,Caldomia April 16,1998 <br /> total xylenes (BTEX),total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-gasoline (TPH-g), and methyl tent-butyl ether <br /> (MTBE) by EPA Methods 8020/8015 modified In addition,samples were analyzed for total petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons-as-diesel (TPH-d)with silica-gel cleanup using EPA Method (modified) 8015, and total <br /> lead using EPA method 6010 <br /> 24 Excavation Backfill <br /> During the period January 5-12, 1998, Fluor Daniel GTI supervised WA Craig in performing the <br /> backfilling of the former UST excavation Concrete debris originating from UST removal activities was <br /> removed from the site by W A Craig Backfill activities were conducted in compliance with <br /> requirements set forth by the CCDD Although the bottom of the excavation was dry at the time of <br /> backfill activities, imported 314-inch-minus gravel was used to backfill the excavation to a depth of <br /> approximately 4 feet bgs A GeoTextile fabric was laid in the excavation over the top of this gravel to <br /> enhance stability of backfill materials An additional deposit of 314-inch-minus gravel was deposited on <br /> top of the fabric to a depth of approximately 1 5 feet bgs Because soil stockpile analytical results <br /> indicated concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons below minimum detection levels, soil from the <br /> stockpiles was used,with concurrence from the PHS/EHD,to complete the backfill of the excavation <br /> from the top of the gravel to the surface Due to rain, final soil compaction testing was postponed until <br /> drier weather On February 27, 1998,the final compaction and testing were performed by W A Craig <br /> Residual stockpile soil was graded at the site One empty and three full purge water drums originating <br /> from historic water sampling activities were removed from the site on March 5, 1998, by Integrated <br /> Wastestream Management, Inc of Milpitas <br /> 30 RESULTS OF FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> 31 Well Abandonment Overdrill and Soil Stockpile Sampling <br /> Table 1 summarizes the laboratory analytical results for well abandonment overdrill and stockpile soil <br /> samples collected on September 19, 1997 Total xylenes were detected in sample SP3-2A at a <br /> concentration of 0 0061 milligrams per kilograms (mg/kg, equivalent to parts per million, or ppm) Total <br /> lead was detected in seven samples,with a maximum concentration of 25 ppm in sample SP3-2A All <br /> lead concentration levels detected were below the State of California Maximum Contaminant Level <br /> (MCL) action levels for lead in water(50 parts per billion) (California Department of Health Services, <br /> 207W5i2.CLO FLUOR DANIEL GTI <br /> CJ <br />
