FLUOR DANIEL GTI
May 16, 1997
Mr Steve Sasson
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 E Webster Avenue, Third Floor
P O Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Subject Drake Property
26485 Thornton Road
Thornton, California
Dear Mr Sasson
This letter presents analytical results of the domestic well sampling activities conducted at the subject
site on April 30, 1997 Fluor Daniel GTI, Inc (Fluor Daniel GTI) personnel, in the presence of Mr Steve
Sasson of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD),
sampled the inactive domestic water well located on the north area of the Drake site (west of the Pine
Street& Thornton Road intersection), and the operating domestic water well located on the adjoining
Garamendi property immediately to the west of the subject site Samples were collected in appropriate
glassware under the inspection of Mr Sasson, placed in an ice-containing insulated container, and
transported under Chain-of-Custody manifest to WEST Laboratory of Davis Samples were analyzed
for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX),total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-
gasoline (TPH-G),total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-diesel (TPH-D), both with and without silica-gel
clean-up, and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)
Analytical results are presented in Table 1 (Attachment 1) Samples DW-GW and OW-GW were
below detection limits for BTEX, TPH-G, and MTBE TPH-D analysis run on both samples revealed
concentrations below detection limits after performing a silica-gel clean-up In the absence of a silica-
gel clean-up, sample DW-GW contained 86 micrograms per liter (ug/L, equivalent to parts per billion,
or ppb) of diesel-range hydrocarbons (noted by the lab as not typical diesel hydrocarbons) The
atypical diesel-range hydrocarbons in sample DW-GW are likely of vegetable origin, indeed, the lab
report notes that" organic matter was visibly present in the sample before extraction" (Attachment 2)
Because of the lack of BTEX or petroleum hydrocarbons in these samples, Fluor Daniel GTI requests
that PHS/EHD grant closure status to the site Additional rationale in support of this request is
presented in Fluor Daniel GTI's November 26, 1996 Feasibility Study/Corrective Action Plan
(Attachment 3)
srcrgst Itr
1401 Halyard Drive, Suite 140 /West Sacramento, CA 95691 USA (916) 372-4700 FAX (916) 372-8781
