Box 880
Lodi, CA 95240
SUBJECT: COLLECTION OF SOIL SAMPLES FOR UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK
CLOSURE IN PLACE.
Dear Mr. Ober:
The following describes our work plan to collect soil samples adjacent to
three underground storage tanks located at Pacific Coast Producers, 32 B.
Tokay St. in Lodi, California.
BACKGROUND
It is our understanding that three 20,000 gallon capacity underground
storage tanks will be closed in place. The tanks were installed in 1978 .
and were used to store diesel fuel. The tanks are approximately 10 feet
in diameter by 35 feet in length. Surface grade to the top of the tanks
is approximately 4 feet with a 4 inch thick concrete slab covering the
surface. The tanks are positioned side by side with approximately 2 feet
of clearance between each tank. Permanent structures over the tanks (see
Plate 1 ) and walls surrounding the tank site on three sides preclude tank
removal and severely limit possible sample boring locations.
SCOPE QF WQRK - SOIL. BORING
Three borings will be drilled at the approximate locati hown on Plate
1. Because of the limited clearance available orings a
easible. Therefore, vertical borings are propose
The soil borings will be drilled using a truck mounted drill rig equipped
with 6-inch or 8-inch hollow stem augers. During the drilling, an
experienced Kleinfelder geologist will classify the subsurface soils,
collect soil samples, and log the borehole. Upon completion of the soil
boring and sampling the boring will be backfilled with neat cement.
To reduce the risk of cross-contamination from the equipment all augers
will be steam cleaned prior to the drilling of each borehole. The
sampling equipment will be cleaned with a trisodium phosphate wash and a
distilled water rinse prior to the collection of each soil sample.
01111R UF11CLS Walnpl Creek .
