,
 v
26 April 2011
AGE-NC Project No. 03-1100
4.0. FINDINGS
Soil stratigraphy was determined from field data collected on 26 and 27 January 2011.
Petroleum hydrocarbon impact to soil and ground water was quantified by laboratory
analytical data.
4.1. STRATIGRAPHY
During the advancement of borings OW1 through OW10 soil sample duplicates were
collected from selected borings between 11 and 15 feet bsg to evaluate subsurface
lithology. Based on samples collected, the site is generally composed of alternating layers
of clay and silty sand to a depth of 16 feet bsg. Clays encountered during hand clearing
(surface to five feet bsg)were generally described as gray and containing hydrocarbon-like
odors. Clays and silty sands encountered between 13.5 and 15 feet bsg were generally
characterized as brown, moist to saturated and contained either slight or moderate
hydrocarbon odor. Excavation road base and pea gravel was encountered from surface
grade to depths between 5 feet and 7 feet bsg during the advancement of borings OW7
through OW10.
Boring logs showing the lithology encountered during the advancement of wells OW1
through OW10 are included in Appendix D. All boring logs were uploaded to the State
Geotracker database and are referenced under confirmation numbers 6199815154,
8783284008, 1833871424, 8931462109, 7914460182, 7372216761, 9677423059,
4697385430, 7345917701, 6421552300.
4.2. LABORATORY RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
A total of four samples were submitted to CTEL for analysis of the constituents of concern
listed in section 2.1. Benzene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were detected in the samples
collected from borings OW2 and OW4 at maximum concentrations of 0.012 milligrams per
kilogram (mg/kg) benzene, 0.022 mg/kg ethylbenzene and 0.030 mg/kg total xylenes
(OW4-14).
No other constituents of concern were detected in the soil samples analyzed. The
analytical results of selected soil samples are summarized in Table 2.The laboratory report
(CTEL Project No. 214-1101202)and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix G.
The analytical results were uploaded to GeoTracker, and are referenced by confirmation
number 6201413750.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
