Site Background Information
AGE-NC Project No. 08-1598
Inc. (AGE) has no direct knowledge that investigations of the tank pit area have been
performed. Additionally, AGE is not certain of the former UST locations.
One 1,000-gallon UST (unleaded gasoline)was removed from the site in November 1992,
without EHD permit. In May 1993, confirmation sampling was performed by Geological
Audit in the tank pit; two samples were collected from the tank pit and one from the
stockpile. Petroleum hydrocarbon compounds were not reported above laboratory reporting
limits in any of the soil samples collected. The UST location appears to have been south
of the former airplane parking strip. A closure letter from EHD for the 1 ,000-gallon UST
removal was issued on 21 December 1993.
PREVIOUS SITE ASSESSMENT
In 1989, Weston, Inc advanced six soil borings (BA, BC, BE, BF, BG and BH) on site for
collection of soil and ground water samples. Additionally, three borings were advanced as
monitoring wells (MW-1 (BA), MW-2 and MW-3) to total depths ranging from 9.15 feet to
13.54 feet below surface grade (bsg). Soil and ground water samples were analyzed for
organochlorine, organophosphorous and carbamate pesticides; additionally, ground water
samples were analyzed for chlorinated phenoxy acid and triazine herbicides:
• Only one soil sample reported detectable concentrations of one or more
constituents of concern. The only compounds found above current regulatory
criteria were the dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) family of chemicals (DDT,
DDE and DDD), but at relatively low levels.
• Bromacil, carbaryl and diuron were detected in ground water samples collected from
well MW-3; concentrations did not exceeded the Primary or Secondary Drinking
Water Standards.
Field Procedures and sample results are outlined in the Weston, Inc.-prepared, Former
Discharge Area Investigation Report, dated 29 August 1989.
It is AGE's understanding that ground water monitoring wells MW-1 , MW-2 and MW-3 were
destroyed during building demolishing activities at the site by Mr. Robert Rocha, of
Madison Construction. In July 2007, an AGE representative conducted an interview with
Mr. John Trinkle, former property owner, to determine the details of the monitoring well
destruction. During the interview, Mr. Trinkle noted that the formerwells' presence was not
known prior to the demolishing activities. While leveling the area with a backhoe the
subcontractor unknowingly discovered and damaged the wells. The wells were thought to
be abandoned pipes, until they were removed.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
