Macro-Core Soil Sampler — Closed Piston Operation
. Removal
Attach a pull cap to the top probe rod and pull out all of
the probe rods until the sampler has been pulled out to
dust above the surface When the sampler is visible
above the surface, remove the remaining probe rod and
attach a pull cap to the top of the drive head (Figure 1) _
o Continue to pull the sampler out of the hole using the
mprobe control (Figure 2)
If the sampler is lodged tightly in the ground refer to the
r: removal steps outlined previously in this section on
page B 4
Recovering the Sample
Once the sampler has been removed trom the hole the
soil sample is easily recovered by unscrewing the cutting Figure 1 Attach pull Figure 2 Pulling Macro-
shoe and pulling the liner out The exterior of the cap to drive head for Core Sampler
cutting shoe features a notch for attaching the removing sampler from
combination wrench to loosen tight threads (Figure 3) ground
When the shoe is loosened, pull liner rrom the sample
tube(Figure 4) The sample material tills the liner and
moves the piston assembly to the top or the liner
(Figure 5)
lr
4 Figure 3 Loosening
cutting shoe with the
• f Combination
Wrench Wrench
s
e
Figure 4 Removing
filled sample liner
from sample tube
y
.61
tet'y
f y
py S
Figure 5 Closed
piston assembly
remains inside filled
s 'fasf sample liner
Geoprobe Systems
B.] 0
