The purpose of this work
is to ascertain the depth to groundwater, identify suspected petrolcul-ri contaminants in soil and I
groundwater and install monitoring wells around the former tank area as required by the San
Joaquin County, Environmental Health .Division (PHS/EHD) in their letters dated. January 25,
1999 and October 17, 2007.
1.0 Background
'Be Boyd Service Center corporation yard is located upon and adjacent to an area formerly used
by the railroad :for bulk locomotive fuel storage. Aerial photographs show that large surface
tanks stored fuel for decades and leakage has occurred. Prior to acquiring the property for the
corporation yard, the property shared a common boundary to this railroad fuel storage area and
automotive fuels also may have been stored in this area.
Sampling for the presence of
contamination has not been performed:in this immediate vicinity however, other areas of former
bulk railroad fuel storage areas in-Tracy has revealed contaminated soil and groundwater. The
Service Center used three underground fuel. storage tanks on-site (Tank 9.1. 5,000 diesel; Tank#k2
8,000 gallon gasoline; Tank 431 8,000 gallon gasoline) until their removal from the site on
December 22, 1998 (see Figures 1, 2 and 3).
Pagc t of 14
