When laboratory analysis are received, a
Department of Transportation licensed transporter will transport the groundwater off site and
dispose of it in an approved facility.
Survey Existing and Proposed Wells
After the installation of the wells, all wells will be surveyed relative to the elevation of a
known benchmark. Additionally, horizontal locations of all well casings and selected building
features will be surveyed relative'to a permanent on-site structure. All of the surveying will be
performed by a registered professional surveyor.
Site Safety and Health Plan
The guidelines established in the October 10, 1988 Site Safety and Health Plan prepared for
the installation and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells at ARCO Station 2093 will.be
implemented during this investigation.
Quality Assurance Plan
The procedures to be followed in sample collection, identification, and handling at the
ARCO site are described in the Quality Assurance Plan section of Appendix A.
Laboratory Quality Assurance Program
In addition to routine calibration of the instruments with standards and blanks, the analyst
is required to run duplicates and spikes on 20 percent of the analyses to ensure an added measure
of precision and accuracy. Accuracy is also assured through the following:
1. Certification by California Department of Health Services.
2. "Blind" samples are submitted by the laboratory's quality assurance officer on a
weekly basis. These are prepared from National Bureau of Standards or EPA
I' reference standards.
Appendix A
Appendix A provides a detailed description of the following:
1. Soil sampling during drilling
2. Borehole drilling
3. Groundwater monitoring wells
4. Groundwater sampling
5. Quality assurance plan
6. Sample handling.
