Miftelhauser 7901 Stoneridge Drive,Suite 123 <br /> C o k P o R A T a o N Pleasanton,California 94588 <br /> (510)416-2900 Fax(510)416-0957 <br /> March 18, 1994 <br /> Mr Edward Ralston <br /> Unocal Corporation <br /> 2000 Crow Canyon Place, Suite 400 <br /> San Ramon, California 94583 <br /> SUBJECT Tank and Stockpile Soil Disposal <br /> Unocal Station #6348 <br /> 3788 Tracy Boulevard <br /> Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Ralston <br /> Mittelhauser Corporation (Mittelhauser) has prepared this letter for Unocal Corporation <br />• (Unocal) to present the documentation that followed the disposal of one 6,000-gallon <br /> septic tank, two 10,000-gallon gasoline fuel tanks, 500 feet of pipe, and 1 ,836 cubic <br /> yards of stockpile soil from the subject site (see Figure 1 , Location Map) <br /> The removal of the tanks and piping, and the excavation of soil, occurred during <br /> December 1992 and January 1993 The manifests for the septic tank and the fuel <br /> tanks, the certificate of disposal for the fuel tanks, the manifest for the piping, and <br /> the manifest for the rinseate are attached to this letter (Appendix A) <br /> The stockpile soil was segregated according to the area from which the soil was <br /> excavated, and for the type of potential petroleum hydrocarbon residual that might be <br /> present in the soil Figure 2 (Soil Sample Location Map) Illustrates the distribution of <br /> soil stockpiles at the site and the approximate locations from which soil samples were <br /> obtained <br /> Soil samples were collected by a representative of Mittelhauser Prior to collecting <br /> each sample, a hole was dug in the soil at the sample location to a depth of between <br /> 6 inches and 1 foot The samples were collected by pressing or hammering a clean <br /> brass tube (6-Inches long by 2 inches in diameter) into the soil at the bottom of each <br /> hole The ends of the brass tube containing the soil sample were covered with <br /> teflon/aluminum foil and plastic endcaps, and labelled The soil samples were placed <br /> Into zlplock bags and stored in a cooler with crushed ice pending submittal to a state- <br /> certified laboratory along with Chain-of-Custody documentation for analysis <br /> Your Partner in Environmental Management <br /> Chicago, IL Indianapolis, IN + Laguna Hills, CA Pleasanton, CA <br />
