(AGE). Analytical results of the ground water sample from Monitoring
Well#3 (MW-3) were 120 micrograms per liter(µg/L) of methyl tent-butyl ether(MTBE). MTBE
was not detected in MW 1,MW-2,and the domestic well. Total petroleum hydrocarbon as gasoline
(IPH G) and as diesel(IPH D),aromatic hydrocarbons as benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene,and
xylenes (BTEXO were not analyzed.Measured depth to ground water indicates an increase of
approximately half to one foot since the last quarterly sampling in November 1999. Depth to water
in MW-3 was 4.27 feet below surface grade (bsg).
Previous analytical results of the MW-3 sample collected in November 1999 were 17 µg/L for
MTBE. Quarterly sampling was not conducted between November 1999 and September 2000. In a
telephone conversation on March 5,2001,AGE informed PHS/EHD that the analytical results of
the latest sampling in December 2000 were 2.7 tg/L of MTBE at MW-1, 1.4 tg/L of MTBE at
MW-2,and 63 ug/L of MTBE at MW-3. The report of that quarterly sampling has not been
released yet. Submit this report to PHS/EHD no later than March 20,2001.
California Department of Health Services has established the Primary Maximum Contaminant Levels
(MCL) for MTBE in drinking water at 13 µg/L. The recurrent detection of MTBE in MW 3
warrants another groundwater monitoring event. Additional work to delineate the extent of the
MTBE groundwater plume and to calculate to total mass of MTBE and any other contaminants will
be required. Effort to identify potential existing releasing sources (such as the above ground tanks
northwest of the monitoring wells) may be needed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran,RENS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, REI-IS Dot Lofstrom,RG
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
c: RWQCB,Central Valley Region-Marty Hartzell
c.
