Box 2009
Stockton , CA 95201
Re : No . 1 West Turner Road , Lodi , CA
Cleaning of monitoring wells
Dear Ms . Reuss :
As we discussed by telephone on 1 /5/90 , I am submitting the
following data for discussion at your meeting with the SJVRWQCB
on Tuesday , 1 /9/90 .
Jim Thorpe Oil Co . has retained Hunter and Associates , 2701 Cottage
Way , Sacramento , CA 95825 to complete the needed work on the above
location . I am working with Mr . Hunter on this project and will be
writing the up-date of the Site Assessment Report . This report will
review all work done to date, both by consultants and by Thorpe Oil
Company , and will propose further work regarding ground water .
Three , 2" ground water monitoring wells are in place at the site ,
as noted in the May 25 , 1988 report by Groundwater Technology Inc .
that is in your files . These wells were sheared off in the process
of excavating contaminated material , but they have been re- located.
We plan to re-survey these wells , bail out 5 casing volumes of water ,
measure ground water elevation and test well water samples for TEH
and BTXE. Details will be outlined in the updated assessment report .
Reportedly , at least one of these wells appeared to be bridged when
they were plumbed by Thorpe Oil Co . We would like to re-enter these
wells to check for fill , and if bridging is found , purge them with
City water , using either a garden hose or small , plastic tubing .
Once the wells are clean , they would be tested as noted above .
Based on a review of data supplied by Thorpe Oil Co. , it appears
that all contaminated material has been excavated and stored on site .
The excavation is considerably larger than that previously reported
and was dug to about 45 feet , which penetrated the water table about
5 feet . Samples of seepage into the pit were analyzed by Canonie
Labs . for BTXE (EPA 602 ) and TEH (EPA 3510 ) and no detectable hydro-
carbons were found . Because seepage can be assumed to be circular
into the pit , it appears that no contaminated material remains and
that the groundwater has not been contaminated . These , and other
sampling and testing will bes--_rssed in the Assessment Report
Up-date .
Ver truly youy s , rj " ' R F`lC7t,
A.
Dennis R. Allen
