Excavation History The site was used as a winery from 1909 through 1984.
On site was a distillery. In the distilling process a boiler was used. Fuel from
r' the boiler was held in a 15,000 gallon concrete vault type tank, which was designed .
to hold #6 bunker fuel. The best we can determine is sometime after World War. II ;
the fuel was changed to r2. diesel fuel.
a Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. was hired by the previous owners (ISC Wines/The Beverage
Source) to remove the vault, approximately 20' wide x 30' long x 10' deep, and
diesel contamination was found. Buildings were demolished and clean up was attempted.
Approximately 1250 cubic yards of non-contaminated soil was placed in a pile south of
the excavated area. Work was stopped after approximately 1400 cubic yards of containinated soil was removed and placed on plastic north of the excavated area. The total
excavated area as shown on the "existing excavation" plot plan is approximately 50'
wide x 75' long x 20' deep.
The previous owners had Groundwater Technology, Inc. install eight wells (5
sample wells and 3 monitoring wells) around the perimeter of the excavation. See
attached copies of Groundwater Technology, Inc: sample results (pages marked 74, 15,
and 16} and "existing excavation'' plot plan showing well locations. Core samples
showed no contamination to well locations at any level including groundwater.
Mmil-MMMMMOMI oils
