ifay 23, 1939 Pace 3 of-5 r Re: l W. Turner Road, Lodi, CA
1200 cubic yards in volume.
The total amount of soil, including clean soil, excavated is approximately
10,000 cubic yards.
After excavation was completed, the owners hired Canonie Environmental to take
composite samples from around the bottom of the excavation and the groundwater present
in the excavation. The results showed 'hon-detectable" levels of all constituents of
petroleum hydrocarbons (results are enclosed) in both soil and water samples.
At this time the owners are requesting permission to pump the groundwater from
the excavation and begin to start backfill and compaction, Prior tD this, if the
SJLHS requests, we are prepared to take additional soil and water samples from any-
where the county requests, pertaining to the excavation and contaminated piles of
soil or any where else they deem necessary.
We feel SJLHD expedience in handling this matter is especially important for
several reasons:
First: The open excavation is extremely sandy soil and is subject to cave in.
Second: The water collecting in the excavation is, at this time, approximately
8 to 10 feet deep and is an attractive nuisance for children looking
for a place to play around, even though it is behind a locked 6 foot
fence.
Third: The water is also growing an abundant supply of algae and mosquito
larvae, which could become a health hazard.
--
The owners are aware that SJLHD had not given a lgo-ahead for reexcav-tion, T
however, It was 'elt that the Cl..an Up of
the soil was the most important matter at
hand. It is their sincere belief that they acted in the best interest of the environ-
ment and the community.
The owners also are prepared, if SJLHD deems necessary, to install a sample well
in ;-ho of the of }ha oVrav=tion_
